On the 31st of March, the Design Museum in London will open ‘Sustainable Futures’, an exhibition which explores a range of products, concepts and projects that address issues of sustainability in their design.
The show is broken up into five themes: Cities, Energy and Economies, Food, Materiality, and the Creative Citizen. It showcases models, products and prototypes of designs that are either on the market already or in development in order to show how these forward thinking approaches can lead to a more proactive and sustainable mentality in the design industry.
The many works on display include ‘Local River’ by Mathieu Lehanneur and Anthony van den Bossche which simultaneously grows herbs and breeds freshwater fish in a domestic environment; Foster + Partners’ carbon neutral ‘Masdar Development’ plan for Abu Dhabi; Yves Behar’s FUSE project with global brand PUMA; and Christopher Raeburn’s ‘Digital Rainbow’ Fashion collection which reuses Ministry of Defence parachute materials.
