Els Woldhek

Accidentals is the result of using eletro-plating, the process of coating an object with a layer of metal via an electric current, as a means of creating naturally formed objects.

By removing the element of a designer, and instead enabling electro-plating to inform the outcome, Dutch Design Academy graduate Els Woldhek, has explored the potential of this process when applied to plastics.

Touching on the concept of individuality within mass-production, Woldhek's project not only demonstrates the aesthetic, but also the functional possibilities that can be achieved when industrial processes are left to their own devices.
