URBAN FABRIC, created by design duo four o nine, is a series of area rugs inspired by the man made patterns inscribed upon the Earth's surface through the development of our agriculture, infrastructure and architecture.
The way societies organize and divide parcels of land and how we occupy and use this land has shaped and marked the landscape. Urban Fabric is an abstraction of these patterns of organization, expressed in woven virgin wool of varying density, texture and pile length. Each piece is derived from a satellite view of a particular rural or urban scene having personal, formal or aesthetic significance.
four o nine was founded by Andrei Zerebecky and Lukasz Kos in 2011. Their first year they completed built projects in Shanghai, including a storefront for contemporary furniture that was nominated by Surface Asia as one of Shanghai's top retail spaces of 2012. Their first line of furniture products has been published extensively throughout Asia, including Surface Asia, Wallpaper Thailand, Perspective, and Dwell Asia. In 2012 the duo was awarded Perspective Magazine's 40 Under 40 Prize in product design.
